A dictionary is your most patient teacher whenever you want to paraphrase something.In the past,they have to store their encyclopaedic knowledge in a brick-like volume.However,with the emergence of microelectronics,it is possible to keep all the data within a minute chip,which is integrated into an e-dictionary that is small enough to fit into your pocket.Both forms have their share of market.// Printed dictionary is usually published by popular publishers like Oxford University Press and Collins.Their well-learned lexicographers hand-picked high-quality examples for their dictionary after covering a large amount of publications,both classical and contemporary.Each word is well-paraphrased and each meaning is fully supported by samples.Although our muscles sour just by opening them,we carry them around us.// In comparison,current e-dictionaries are low in weight as well as content.It is understandable that they are usually produced by electronic companies which are not quite professional in linguistics.This is a downside.Besides light weight,its fast searching speed is also an upside.You just need to punch a few buttons and within a blink,you get the answer.This is a bless for lazy and busy people.// I prefer e-dictionaries.When I look up word with an electronic dictionary,I will not get quite interrupted as with a printed one.Besides,they are progressing rapidly in both content and technology.And I believe the traditional lexica will fade out because there is no impenetrable barrier against the cooperation between the publishers and e-dictionary manufactures.I will definitely choose e-dictionaries in the future.
