What we would want is something that is suitable for demonstration, so a running prototype would be sufficient.
Existing codebase (someone42/hardware-bitcoin-wallet GitHub) runs on a mega2560, with a few alterations. (Such as the PROGMEM statements being recast with const)
As this is an open source project, the original developers have stated they do not have the time to keep up development.
Last year, a hardware device was developed that ran off this codebase (with some additions that I assume are not open source).
We want to :
1. Debug/figure out the problem with the communications stream. (There seems to be a communications error, I believe the serial stream protocol is somehow not being framed correctly.)
2. Add code that would use bluetooth as an alternative to USB. My current development chip is an NRF8001, open source drivers for this are available
3. Add code to abstract the display more current display is a typical 16x2 LCD. We would like to use a 2" e-ink display. Open source drivers for this are available.
4. Currently the code only has 2 physical buttons allocated. We would like to add code for reading and using a 10-key (telephone style) keypad.
5. Add capability to sign free-format text messages. Being that the entire code is designed to sign transactions, I don't think this is a giant problem, just would need to extend the protocol.
6. Extend the transaction capabilities to be able to also process Litecoin.
7. Add a deterministic seed capability. In other words, could reconstitute the private key by using a known to the user list of words to create the seed for the crypto creation of the private key.
8. Add power on and transaction PIN capabilities. I believe these are already in the code as stubs.
All of the code for the above functions already exists in open source form. We just need someone to integrate it.
